How To Grow Lousiana Irises
Water Loving
If there is anything to remember about Louisiana irises its that they love water. An area where water holds or is perhaps boggy is excellent. Check out my video to see what I mean.
Good Soil
I will always explain how important good soil is to any plant. It is worth the money to buy good soil and then start your own compost pile in the future. Check out my video on composting to understand more.
Heavy Feeders
Louisiana irises love nutrients. All plants need nutrients but some take in more than others. A good compost tea, organic fertilizer, or your own homemade compost will do wonders for your plant and its success.
Full Sun
To get the most blooms out of your louisiana iris, make sure to plant her in full sun if you can. This plant can take our summer heat and will be fine. To get the maximum number of blooms and a faster growth rate, plant in full sun.
How to Grow Bearded Irises
Good Drainage
In order for your bearded iris to even have a chance in almost any environment, there must be at least 3 inches of good drainage. This means the area you plant your iris needs to not hold water and dries quickly.
Part Shade
I have found my bearded iris that multiply and do not get as much leaf burn are my irises in partial shade. This is necessary with our summer heat and humidity.
Proper Planting
The iris bulb must be covered by 1 inch of soil. This is necessary to help cool the entire plant in the hot summer mouths and not getting bulb burn.
Good Soil
Bearded iris need good soil especially in our extreme climate. Good soil will assist your plant and help it become stronger. Humus and earthworm castings will greatly assist you. Check out my video on soil to get a better understanding.
